Chemical Peels
A chemical peel is a kind of treatment that is used for improving the overall appearance of the skin. A fruit acid is used in this case which peels off or sloughs off the dead skin tissues, hence the name of this treatment. These need to be done under the guidance of the dermatologist.
The important forms of chemical peels are as follows:
- Jessner's peel: This is a combination of chemicals like lactic acid, salicylic acid, resorcinol etc. The use of this is to destroy the intracellular bodies between keratinocytes. It is very effective for treatment of pimples.
- Alpha hydroxy acid peels: This type of chemical peel is regarded as one of the most mild forms of this treatment. This can be a remedy for dryness, uneven pigmentation, wrinkle reduction etc.
- Retinoic acid peel: This form of treatment is normally done in a medical centre or in an authorized skin treatment centre. Compared to the beta hydroxy acid peel, this happens to be a deeper peel. This can help in the pigmentation issues, wrinkle cure etc.
- Beta hydroxyl acid peels: These types of peels have greater ability to go deeper into the pores compared to alpha peels. An example of beta hydroxyl acid is salicylic acid. This is very effective for oil control.
- Trichloroacetic acid peels: These chemical peels may be used as an intermediate peeling agent. Understandingly, the penetration increases as the concentration increases.
